1856 – Birth in Ratnagiri

Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born on July 23, 1856, in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, into a cultured Chitpavan Brahmin family that nurtured his intellectual curiosity, discipline, and patriotic values.

Academic Excellence

1879 – Graduates in Law

Tilak completed his Bachelor of Law from Bombay University, strengthening his analytical thinking and preparing him for future political leadership, public activism, and pioneering contributions to national education.

Voice of the Nation

1881 – Launch of Kesari & The Mahratta

Tilak founded Kesari (Marathi) and The Mahratta (English) newspapers to expose colonial injustice, awaken national consciousness, and empower Indians with fearless journalism and assertive expressions for Swaraj.

Trials of Courage

1897 & 1908 – Sedition Convictions

1908–1914 – Mandalay Imprisonment
